Topic: Housing First
Come and join us for another one of the public meetings which will focus on the 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 project, which presents a unique approach to finding solutions to ending homelessness.
The Housing First concept is based on the premise that people living on the streets need stable housing first and foremost to solve any problems they may face, such as dealing with debt, finding a job, stabilizing both physical and mental health. The Housing First project primarily helps people without a stable background to start living in rental housing and to cope with the demands associated with it. The Housing First teams work with homeless people with serious mental illness (or other serious diagnoses), drug or alcohol addiction, and those who lack social support in the community, or have no help from friends or family. The teams offer them intensive comprehensive support.
What is the work of the housing team? Where do the people who need their support come from and how do they go about finding housing or stabilizing their financial situation? And what do the workers and those already housed struggle with? What issues do we all share as tenants?
Veronika Kafkova, a social worker with the Housing First Baobab team will be our guest and will answer all of these questions. The team began helping homeless people in the fall of 2023.
English translation on the spot included.
We look forward to seeing you.
