TOPIC: Pride and prejudice in the context of affordable housing
𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐜̌𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐤𝐚́ and a collective of her students have created a zine 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒋𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒆 focusing on the right to the city in the present and the issue of (in)affordability of housing. It contains a selection of collective exercises and theses of practical research from the teaching of architectural theory at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 2020-2022. The zine is a loose continuation of the first joint project of Maria Topolčanská and Ľubica Segečová Fake Cities True Stories (2012) which was a publishing tool of critical pedagogy at the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.
At the June public meeting of our initiative, Maria Topolčanská will present the first publication from the series Pride and Prejudice which focuses on the fulfilment of the right to housing in the present.
Maria Topolčanská is an architect and rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague where she has been teaching architectural theory since 2017. The editorial team of the zine consists of Alžběta Nováková, Dita Petráňová, Magdalena S. Havlová, Kateřina Kuchtová, Magdaléna Feilhauerová, Martin Kunc and Tereza Dvořáková (photography). Dagmar Svatošová (AVU Publishing House) gave great support to the whole project.
In the public meeting, we will also collectively discuss specific examples of injustice that the membership of our initiative have encountered.
Do you have a problem with your landlord? Come for advice and to become a member. There will be a lawyer and a housing benefit specialist available on site for consultations.
Come to the AVU garden on the 13th of June and invite your neighbours!
