At the next public meeting of the Tenants’ Initiative, we will revisit the topic of organizing. Public meetings will now be held on the second Wednesday of each month.
As mass layoffs sweep through Big Tech and the so-called AI revolution reshapes the industry, the image of IT workers as a privileged professional elite is beginning to crumble. Outsourcing, contractor precarity, and forced returns to office expose a different reality: IT workers are workers like any others.
This lecture traces how the material conditions of tech labor have shifted, from the optimism of the dot-com bubble to the instability of todayโs AI bubble. It examines how the โcreative professionalโ myth took hold, why it is collapsing, and what forms of collective power might emerge in a globalized, precarious industry. We will explore how IT unions organize, how solidarity can be built across fragmented workplaces, and how struggles over labor and housing intersect within the same structural conditions.
Join us for a discussion on the changing face of tech work and the possibilities for collective agency in its future.
The public meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 12, at Punctum-Krรกsovka (Krรกsova 27), which is easiest to reach from the Viktoria ลฝiลพkov tram stop.
After the lecture and debate, there will be an informal part where you can meet members of the Tenants’ Initiative, have a drink, play ping pong, and have fun.
